Coast Guard takes over search of missing swimmer in Ocean City

OCEAN CITY, MD – A missing swimmer is feared dead in Ocean City.

A search and rescue operation was initiated at 25th Street beach in Ocean City on Saturday after a male swimmer in his twenties went missing. The Ocean City Fire Department received the alert at approximately 3:29 pm and immediately dispatched rescue swimmers to the scene.

The search effort also included members of the Ocean City Beach Patrol, the United States Coast Guard, and the Maryland Natural Resources Police.

Despite a thorough search that lasted almost two hours, the missing swimmer was not found. The United States Coast Guard and NRP have taken over the scene and will continue the search effort. OCFD rescue personnel will remain on standby in case further assistance is needed.
