Traffic Stop Leads to Arrest, Recovery of Handgun and Drugs

ATLANTIC CITY, NJ – On Friday, a traffic stop led to the arrest of Jonathan Lopez, a 34-year-old man from Pleasantville, and the recovery of a handgun and drugs. At 9:52 AM, detectives of the Atlantic City Police Department’s Special Investigations Section observed Lopez commit several traffic violations while driving. When they attempted to initiate a car stop, Lopez continued driving before eventually coming to a halt.

Detectives made contact with Lopez and discovered a loaded handgun in his waistband after a brief struggle. The handgun was equipped with a high-capacity magazine loaded with hollow point bullets. A subsequent search of the vehicle revealed approximately 30 grams of suspected crack cocaine, 20 grams of suspected heroin, and a rubber stamper with a blue ink pad. Detectives also seized around $479 in US currency believed to be proceeds from illegal narcotics sales.

Jonathan Lopez now faces multiple charges, including unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of a weapon while committing a CDS transaction, possession of a high-capacity magazine, possession of hollow point ammunition, and possession of CDS with intent to distribute.
