NEPTUNE, NJ – The Monmouth County Animal Control Division responded to a call late Sunday night about an abandoned puppy left on the side of the road. Upon arriving at the scene, they found an 8-week-old puppy named “Matilda” in the Myrtle Avenue area of Neptune. The puppy was severely emaciated, struggling to breathe, and unable to lift her head. They took Matilda to the shelter for urgent medical care, and while she’s still in critical condition, The Monmouth County SPCA is doing everything they can to keep her comfortable. If you have any information on Matilda or her origins, please call our Humane Law Enforcement Division at 732-440-1539

They have successfully regulated Matilda’s temperature from a low 97° to a normal 101° and are providing her with frequent, small meals to avoid overwhelming her system due to severe malnourishment. Although Matilda’s initial bloodwork was less than ideal, they are optimistic that her subsequent results will reflect her progress.

The Monmouth County SPCA will continue to update everyone on Matilda! You can donate towards her care here: https://www.classy.org/give/487872/#!/donation/checkout
