Newark police seek suspect wanted for catalytic converter thefts

NEWARK, NJ – Fritz G. Fragé, Newark Public Safety Director, has called for public assistance to identify a suspect involved in the theft of a catalytic converter. The incident occurred early morning on Saturday.

The suspect, captured by video surveillance, was observed walking northbound on the 300 block of South 19th Street. The suspect proceeded to crouch underneath a parked vehicle from the passenger side and used a light to remove the vehicle’s catalytic converter.

The suspect then fled southbound towards 13th Avenue with the stolen property.
