Two Arrested in Mechanicsville Homicide Investigation

MECHANICSVILLE, MD – On Wednesday, at 5:28 am, deputies from the St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office responded to a distress call from an apartment on the 29000 block of Three Notch Road. Upon arrival, the officers found Raymond Franklin Woods Jr., a 54-year-old resident of Mechanicsville, deceased on a couch from a gunshot wound to the head.

Detectives from the St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Division, with the assistance of the Crime Lab Unit and a forensic investigator from the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, conducted further investigation and confirmed the gunshot wound as a homicide.

The investigation led to the arrest of Marvin Orlando Johnson, age 38, and Marlee Lynn Stokes, age 37. Johnson faces charges of First-Degree Murder, Second-Degree Murder, Use of a Firearm in the Commission of a Crime of Violence, First-Degree Assault, and Second-Degree Assault. Stokes has been charged with First-Degree Murder: Accessory After the Fact and Second-Degree Murder: Accessory After the Fact.

Johnson and Stokes are currently detained at the St. Mary’s County Detention and Rehabilitation Center in Leonardtown on a no-bond status. Detective Andrew Burgess is appealing for anyone with additional information about this incident to contact him at 301-475-4200, ext. 8041.
