Bergenfield Man Sentenced for Stabbing Death in Elizabeth

ELIZABETH, NJ – Javan Johnson, a 32-year-old Bergenfield man, has been sentenced to 25 years in State Prison for the stabbing death of Marlon Pantin, a 39-year-old Brooklyn, NY resident. The incident took place in 2022 at the Country Inn & Suites in Elizabeth. Union County Superior Court Judge Thomas Isenhour handed down the sentence on Thursday, specifying that Johnson must serve at least 85% of the sentence before parole eligibility.

In the early hours of Monday, March 21, 2022, the Elizabeth Police Department discovered Pantin critically injured from stab wounds at the Country Inn & Suites. Pantin was transported to the University Hospital in Newark, where he was pronounced dead. Union County Prosecutor William A. Daniel commended Assistant Prosecutor Robert Grady, Sergeant Filipe Afonso, and Elizabeth Detectives James Szpond and Louis DeMondo for their dedication to the case.
