Teen Arrested for Firing Shots in Residential Neighborhood

MOUNT VERNON, IL – On Saturday, at approximately 9:31 pm, police officers responded to reports of shots fired in the area of 19th and Conger. Witnesses reported that a male wearing a ski mask had fired shots from a blue Dodge Avenger.

Officers located and stopped the vehicle in the area of 13th and Jones. A male wearing a ski mask fled from the vehicle into a wooded area. Officers established a perimeter, and with the help of a K9 team, apprehended the suspect, a sixteen-year-old male.

The suspect, who was found in possession of a loaded firearm, was wanted on a Jefferson County warrant for Possession of a Stolen Firearm and Armed Violence.

Additional charges now include Aggravated Unlawful Use of a Weapon, Reckless Discharge of a Firearm, Armed Violence, and Felony Resisting arrest.
