North Arlington woman charged after baby swallows opioid

NORTH ARLINGTON, NJ – Alia Elsafy, a resident of North Arlington, was charged with second-degree endangering the welfare of a child on Thursday.

The charges come after an investigation led by the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office and the North Arlington Police Department, which revealed that Elsafy allegedly allowed a 6-month-old child access to a suspected opioid that the child then ingested.

Elsafy is currently in the Bergen County Jail awaiting her first appearance in Central Judicial Processing Court in Hackensack.
