QUEENS, NY – Chad Collie, 20, of Far Rockaway, was recently sentenced to 19 years in prison by Queens Supreme Court Justice Toni Cimino after pleading guilty to attempted murder in the second degree. Collie’s charges are connected to an incident involving an off-duty NYPD officer last year.

On the evening of February 1, 2022, Collie approached the officer’s stationary vehicle at a traffic light near the intersection of Beach Channel Drive and Beach 62nd Street. Brandishing a firearm, Collie demanded that the 22-year-old officer exit the car.

Surveillance footage shows Collie firing three shots, one of which struck the officer in the shoulder. The officer returned fire, missing Collie, who fled on foot. Uniformed officers nearby apprehended Collie a short distance away after he fired a shot at their vehicle.
