Mother and Daughter Charged in Family Murder

PRINCE GEORGE’S COUNTY, MD – Candace Craig, 44, and her daughter Salia Hardy, 19, have been recently charged by the Prince George’s County Police Department’s Homicide Unit in relation to a murder in their family home in Landover.

The victim is believed to be 71-year-old Margaret Craig, mother to Candace and grandmother to Hardy.

On Friday, June 2, 2023, at approximately 1:35 pm, officers responded to a welfare check at the family residence. Officers found indications of decomposition in the basement. According to the preliminary investigation, Candace is believed to have murdered her mother on May 23, 2023, with Hardy assisting in an attempt to dispose of the remains the following day.

Both suspects are currently in custody at the Department of Corrections. Candace faces first and second-degree murder charges, while Hardy has been charged as an accessory after the fact. The investigation is still ongoing. Detectives can be contacted with relevant information at 301-516-2512.
