Virginia Beach Police Investigating Fatal Crash Involving U-Haul

VIRGINIA BEACH, VA – On Monday, Virginia Beach Emergency Communications and Citizen Services received a distress call reporting a crash at the intersection of Independence Blvd and Ewell Rd

. Eye-witness accounts described a small U-Haul box truck proceeding northbound on Independence Blvd colliding with a traffic signal pole in the north median of Independence Blvd.

Emergency services, promptly dispatched to the scene, provided assistance to the occupants of the vehicle – Randall Sava (24) and Katrina Stone (28), both from Florida – and their dog, Draco. While Sava and Draco are expected to survive their injuries, Stone succumbed to her injuries at a local hospital.

Following his release from the hospital, Sava was arrested and faces charges including Misdemeanor Driving without a License, Felony Possession of Schedule I/II Narcotics, and Misdemeanor Animal Neglect.
