Student Charged for Weapon on School Grounds

BUFFALO, NY – A 17-year-old male student of Academy School #131 was arraigned on Wednesday before Youth Part Judge Brenda Freedman, according to Erie County District Attorney John J. Flynn. The young man stands indicted for one count of Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree, and one count of Criminal Possession of a Weapon on School Grounds.

On Tuesday, April 25, 2023, at around 11:20 am, the defendant entered his school on St. Lawrence Avenue in the City of Buffalo. A school security officer allegedly found a disassembled handgun in the student’s backpack when he passed through the weapon detection system.

Following the confiscation of the weapon, the adolescent fled the premises. This led to a brief lockdown and notification of the Buffalo Police Department. The confiscated firearm, described as a “ghost gun,” was submitted into evidence.

The defendant, is due to return to court on Tuesday, July 25, 2023, for a motion decision.
