MANCHESTER, NJ – A 51-year-old man was injured after he ran a stop sign on his e-bike, according to police.
On Saturday, June 10, at approximately 2:47 pm, the Manchester Township Police responded to an incident involving a collision between a bicyclist and an SUV in the Pine Lake Park section of the Township. The incident took place at the intersection of Savannah Road and Tenth Avenue. Upon reaching the scene, officers found an E-Bike and a 2017 Nissan Rouge SUV.
According to the investigation conducted, it was determined that the operator of the E-Bike, identified as 51-year-old Scott Sheets, was traveling on Savannah Road. Unfortunately, Sheets failed to stop at a stop sign posted at the intersection of Tenth Avenue.
The collision occurred as a result of this violation. Sheets sustained injuries and was transported to Community Medical Center in Toms River. He is currently in stable condition.
It is important to note that while low-speed electric bicycles are allowed on roadways as per the current laws in New Jersey, there are certain restrictions and additional requirements based on the class of the electric bicycle. The Manchester Police would like to remind the public of the importance of wearing a helmet, staying to the right, and adhering to all other motor vehicle laws.
