Juvenile Arrested for Fatal Shooting in Jersey City

JERSEY CITY, NJ – The Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide Unit announced the arrest of a 14-year-old male last Friday in connection with the fatal shooting of Tyshawn Smith, a 15-year-old resident of Jersey City.

The juvenile, whose identity remains confidential, was charged with Aggravated Manslaughter, Possession of a Weapon, and Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose.

The Jersey City Police Department was alerted of the incident at 124 Wilkinson Avenue on Monday, June 5, 2023, at approximately 4:20 a.m. Upon arrival, officers found Smith with a gunshot wound to the abdomen.

Smith was pronounced dead at around 4:55 a.m. The Regional Medical Examiner’s Office confirmed the cause and manner of death as homicide.
