Williamsport Man Hospitalized Following Kitchen Fire

WASHINGTON COUNTY, MD – A man from Williamsport was airlifted to a Washington, DC area hospital following a kitchen fire in his home on Friday afternoon. Firefighters from Halfway Volunteer Fire Company and surrounding companies were dispatched to a house fire at 10729 Hoffman Drive.

Upon arrival, they found the house, a one-story rancher, ablaze. Around 70 firefighters worked for 45 minutes to control the two-alarm fire.

Investigators from the Office of the State Fire Marshal later determined that items left on the stove, which the 76-year-old homeowner inadvertently turned on, caused the fire.

Overcome by heavy smoke while attempting to extinguish the fire, the man collapsed inside the burning house.

He was rescued by his wife who arrived home to find their residence ablaze and her husband unconscious. The man was treated for burns covering 14 percent of his body and airlifted to the Burn Center at MedStar Washington Hospital Center where he is listed in stable condition.
