Connecticut Man Sentenced for Assault and Attempted Carjacking

BROOKLYN, NY – Kahlil Ivey, a 26-year-old resident of Waterbury, Connecticut, was sentenced on Monday, to 9 years in prison by Brooklyn Supreme Court Justice Herbert Moses. Ivey was charged with first-degree assault for injuring four individuals, including a toddler, in an attempted carjacking in Coney Island. The defendant pled guilty to the charge on April 3, 2023.

The incident occurred on June 18, 2021, at approximately 10:30 p.m., in the vicinity of Surf Avenue and West 15th Street.

According to the police, Ivey attempted to steal a vehicle while a 43-year-old man was placing his 2-year-old daughter and 18-month-old niece in the rear of the vehicle.

The man resisted, causing a struggle during which Ivey reversed the car onto a curb, injuring a woman who suffered a brain injury and causing multiple abrasions to two other women. Ivey subsequently attempted a second carjacking before being apprehended by the police.
