MORRIS COUNTY, NJ – Earl Kelly, a 38-year-old man from Hamilton, NJ, was sentenced to 12 years in New Jersey State Prison by the Honorable Stephen J. Taylor, PJCr, on Thursday.

The sentencing came after a six-day trial in April, in which a Morris County jury found Kelly guilty of three counts: second-degree Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose, second-degree Unlawful Possession of a Weapon, and third-degree Criminal Restraint.

The charges stemmed from an incident on Friday, December 24, 2021, where Kelly restrained a 19-year-old female at a Holiday Inn in Parsippany, while in possession of a handgun. Following a thorough investigation, members of the Edison Police Department apprehended Kelly on Friday, January 7, 2022.
