BROOKLYN, NY – Tyrik Mott, a 30-year-old man from Prospect Heights, Brooklyn, has been recently sentenced to nine years in prison following a traffic accident that led to the death of a 3-month-old child and severely injured the infant’s mother. Brooklyn District Attorney Eric Gonzalez announced the sentence on Wednesday.

Mott was found guilty of driving against the direction of traffic on a one-way street, crashing into another vehicle and subsequently striking a family walking with a stroller. The incident resulted in the death of baby Apolline Mong Guillemin, while her mother sustained serious injuries and had to be admitted to Methodist Hospital. The baby’s father also suffered minor injuries.

After the collision, Mott attempted to flee the scene on foot, discarding his clothing in the process. He later attempted to carjack a vehicle on Atlantic Avenue, only two blocks away. He was apprehended during this act by responding police officers. At the time of the incident, his driver’s license was suspended.
