Suspect wanted for 2022 shooting int the Bronx arrested

BRONX, NY – A shooting incident from Monday, March 7, 2022, that left a young Bronx man fatally wounded has now been classified as a homicide. At around 6:50 pm, officers from the 44th Precinct responded to a 911 call about a man shot in front of 214 East 165 Street.

They discovered a 23-year-old male, identified as Jose Bencosme from 735 Bryant Avenue, with gunshot wounds to the neck and torso.

EMS transported the victim to NYC Health & Hospitals/Lincoln, where he was later pronounced dead on Friday. In connection with the investigation, Kelvin Mejia, a 22-year-old male from 1691 East 174 Street, was arrested and charged on Friday, June 3, 2022.

Charges include Attempted Criminally Negligent Homicide, Assault, Criminal Use of a Firearm, and Criminal Possession of a Firearm.
