20-year-old local shot and killed in Virginia Beach

VIRGINIA BEACH, VA – The tranquility of a summer evening was shattered on Thursday when gunshots rang out in the 700 block of Garfield Avenue, prompting a large response from the Virginia Beach Police Department.

Officers arrived at the scene at approximately 11:24 P.M. to find a young man, identified as Lonnie Harvey Jr., 20, of Virginia Beach, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.

First responders rushed Harvey to a nearby hospital in the hopes of saving his life. Despite their efforts, the young man succumbed to his injuries and passed away.

Police are asking for witnesses at this time. No arrests have been made. No suspects have been identified.
