Harlem hit and run suspect leaves 6-year-old in critical condition

NEW YORK, NY – Detectives in Harlem are on the hunt for a hit-and-run suspect who left the scene of a crash that resulted in the critical injury of a 6-year-old boy.

On Sunday, at approximately 6:33 PM, the police received a 911 call reporting a pedestrian struck inside Thomas Jefferson Park near East 111 Street and 1 Avenue.

Police learned that an unidentified person was riding a two-wheeled motorized vehicle southbound on a pedestrian walkway within the park when they collided with a 6-year-old male pedestrian.

The impact caused the child to be thrown to the ground, resulting in severe head trauma. Emergency Medical Services arrived at the scene and transported the critically injured child to NYC Health and Hospitals/Harlem.

Due to a brain bleed and multiple skull fractures, the child was soon transferred to pediatric care at New York Presbyterian/Columbia University Irving Medical Center, where he remains in critical condition.

The operator of the vehicle initially stayed at the scene but fled before the arrival of the police, without providing any identification.

The two-wheeled vehicle was last seen heading northbound within the park, towards East 114 Street and Pleasant Avenue. The NYPD’s Highway Collision Investigation Squad has taken over the investigation into this collision.

The individual being sought is described as a male with a dark complexion.
