New Castle Man Arrested for Armed Robberies at Wawa Stores

NEW CASTLE, DE – Anton Newkirk, 27, has been recently arrested by the Delaware State Police for committing armed robberies at two separate Wawa stores in New Castle County.

The first incident occurred on Sunday, June 12, at the Wawa located at 1750 Capitol Trail in Newark, and the second took place on the following Monday at the Wawa on 4555 Linden Hill Road in Wilmington. In both instances, an armed man demanded cash from employees.

Detectives from the Troop 2 Robbery Unit developed Newkirk as a suspect and apprehended him this Wednesday, at Christiana Hospital’s parking lot.

Newkirk was charged with six counts of First Degree Robbery, two counts of Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony, and two counts of Possession of a Firearm by a Person Prohibited. He is currently held at Howard R. Young Correctional Institution on a $520,000 cash bond.
