Deadly Shooting of 17-Year-Old Under Investigation in Jersey City

JERSEY CITY, NJ – On Saturday, the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide Unit and the Jersey City Police Department began investigating the fatal shooting of 17-year-old Isaiah Velasquez.

Jersey City Police responded to a shooting alert around 8:02 p.m. at 16th Street and Coles Street. Velasquez, a Jersey City resident, was found with a gunshot wound to the torso.

He was taken to the Jersey City Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead at approximately 8:57 p.m. The cause and manner of his death are pending the findings of the Regional Medical Examiner’s Office.
