16-month-old child dead after mom went on vacation and abandoned her

CLEVELAND, OH – Cuyahoga County Prosecutor Michael C. O’Malley has announced the indictment of 31-year-old Kristel Candelario on Monday, for leaving her 16-month-old daughter alone for 10 days. The child was found unresponsive when Candelario returned from her trip on June 16th.

According to the preliminary investigation by the Cleveland Division of Police’s Homicide Unit, the child had been left alone and unattended from June 6 to June 16 while Candelario was vacationing in Detroit, Michigan, and Puerto Rico.

The child was found in a Pack-N-Play pin with soiled blankets, and her cause of death was attributed to severe dehydration.

Candelario faces multiple charges including Aggravated Murder, Murder, Felonious Assault, and Endangering Children.
