Brooklyn Man Sentenced for Shooting that Resulted in 21-Year-Old’s Death

BROOKLYN, NY – Brooklyn District Attorney Eric Gonzalez announced on Wednesday the sentencing of Tristan Murray, a 30-year-old resident of Brooklyn, to 35 years to life in prison. Murray was convicted of a shooting that resulted in the death of a 21-year-old man in Flatlands.

Murray, along with an alleged accomplice, targeted a parked car in which the victim sat with his girlfriend, discharging their firearms at the vehicle.

Murray was found guilty of second-degree murder, second-degree attempted murder, and two counts of second-degree criminal possession of a weapon on May 19, following a jury trial. The defendant’s alleged accomplice, Tarell Herbert, 29, also of Brooklyn, is awaiting trial on charges of second-degree murder, second-degree attempted murder, and related offenses.

On September 2, 2016, at around 7 p.m., Anthony Francis, the victim, was departing from a visit with his girlfriend in Flatlands when the shooting occurred.

Murray was apprehended a day following the shooting, with a .45 caliber gun in his possession, linked to the crime scene through a comprehensive investigation by the Brooklyn South Homicide Task Force and the Brooklyn District Attorney’s Office.
