Turtle crossings causing traffic issues in Shore town

Stone Harbor, NJ – Residents and visitors are urged to exercise caution while traveling along Stone Harbor Boulevard as a significant number of turtles have been observed crossing the roadway. This influx of turtles has resulted in multiple traffic hazards, with drivers suddenly braking and individuals hastily rushing across the street to assist the reptiles.

The situation has prompted concerns for public safety, as sudden stops for turtles slowly easing across traffic can pose risks to both drivers and those attempting to help the turtles. Authorities are reminding everyone to prioritize their safety while showing compassion toward the animals.

To minimize the potential for accidents and ensure a safe Fourth of July weekend, motorists are advised to proceed with caution along Stone Harbor Boulevard.

The Stone Harbor Police Department is reminding drivers to adhere to traffic regulations, refrain from sudden stops unless necessary, and avoid impulsive actions that may endanger themselves or others.

If drivers encounter turtles on the road, it is recommended to exercise patience and assess the situation carefully. The turtles are able to cross the road independently and they do not need assistance. Drivers should remain in their vehicles.
