Fender bender in Newark turns into armed carjacking

NEWARK, DE – On Monday, at approximately 3:29 pm, a reported carjacking incident triggered a response from Newark Police. According to the victim, a black Dodge SUV abruptly stopped in front of his vehicle on Library Avenue (SR 72) south of Wyoming Road, causing a collision.

After he got out to assess the damage, a male suspect from the Dodge, armed with a handgun, ordered him to move away. The suspect then drove away in the victim’s vehicle.

The suspect, described as a black male in a light green shirt and mask, remains at large. Newark Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Division is currently investigating the incident. The victim’s vehicle has since been found.
