SUFFOLK COUNTY, N.Y. – Suffolk County District Attorney Raymond A. Tierney recently announced the indictment of Elian Jurado Zavala, a 19-year-old Bay Shore resident, who is accused of fatally striking pedestrian Nicholas Puzio, 25, of Farmingville, and then fleeing the scene.

On Sunday, March 12, around 4:00 a.m., Jurado Zavala was operating a white 2014 Honda Civic on Route 112 near Oak Street in Patchogue when he allegedly struck Puzio, who later died at the hospital from his injuries. Jurado Zavala reportedly left the scene without contacting the police or checking on Puzio.

Suffolk County Police Department Detectives located Jurado Zavala’s damaged vehicle at his home in Bay Shore the next day. He was arrested and on Wednesday, was arraigned before Supreme Court Justice, the Honorable Richard Ambro, on the charge of Leaving the Scene of an Incident Without Reporting, a Class D felony.
