Bridgewater police investigating assault and robbery of woman

BRIDGEWATER, N.J. – Somerset County Prosecutor John P. McDonald and Bridgewater Township Chief of Police John B. Mitzak have launched an investigation into a robbery and assault incident. The crime took place on Sunday, on a path behind the Blessed Sacrament Church on Washington Valley Road.

At approximately 9:54 a.m., the Bridgewater Township Police Department received an emergency call reporting a theft in progress. On arrival, officers encountered an adult female Bridgewater resident who had been assaulted by an unidentified male.

Detectives from the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office and the Bridgewater Police Department, specifically the Sex Crimes/Child Abuse Unit and the Crime Scene Investigation Unit, have since been involved in the investigation.

The suspect was described as a light-skinned male, about 5’5 with an average build, thought to be in his 30s or 40s. He was wearing a button-down short-sleeve shirt, a white t-shirt, shorts, and a hat. The victim’s cellphone was recovered from the scene after a subsequent search. The investigation continues.
