Newark police seek Gas Station theft suspect

NEWARK, NJ – The Newark Public Safety Director, Fritz Fragé, reports that a warrant has been issued for Shalar Nelson, a 39-year-old Newark resident, in relation to a theft that happened last Wednesday, July 6.

The incident occurred at around 8:33 am at the BP Gas Station on the 500 block of Springfield Avenue. Surveillance footage shows the suspect, later identified as Nelson, taking $500 from the counter which the attendant was counting before his shift, then leaving the premises.

Nelson, also known by the name Shawn Nelson, is a 5’8”, 200-pound Black male, with brown eyes, black hair, and a dark complexion.
