Black Owned Cafe in North Jersey Vandalized over Pride Flags Again

West Orange, NJ – A local cafe in West Orange fell victim to acts of vandalism twice this week, with perpetrators smashing windows and defacing two gay pride banners displayed prominently on the building, as confirmed by the local police.

Harper’s Cafe, located on South Valley Road, had to temporarily close its doors on Friday to allow the owner to address the aftermath of two consecutive nights of vandalism. The front door was covered with fresh sheets of plywood, and traces of paint smears marred the shattered front window caused by a brick thrown on Thursday night.

The owner took to Facebook to inform customers, stating, “We have made the decision to close temporarily while we repair the damage caused.”

West Orange Mayor Susan McCartney promptly condemned the acts of vandalism, expressing her disapproval and stating that such behavior has no place in their community.

She also urged anyone with information regarding the incidents to come forward and report it to the West Orange Police Department at 973-325-4000.
