Teenager Wanted in Connection with Father’s Day Homicide in Damascus

MONTGOMERY COUNTY, MD – Major Crimes detectives from Montgomery County Department of Police are actively searching for 16-year-old Isaiah Jamael Brown-Hawkins in relation to the fatal shooting.

Brown Hawkins is accused of killing James Joel Austin, a 32-year-old man from Damascus.

The incident occurred on Father’s Day, Sunday, June 18, in the 9800 block of Bethesda Church Road in Damascus.

At approximately 9:58 p.m., officers from the 5th District arrived at the location following calls reporting a shooting. Austin was discovered in the parking lot of an apartment complex, suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Brown-Hawkins, suspected to have fled the scene in a Honda, remains at large.

The vehicle was later found in Washington, DC. Brown-Hawkins is considered armed and dangerous, and the public is asked not to approach him if located.

A warrant has been issued for the arrest of Brown-Hawkins, with charges including first degree murder, felony murder, armed carjacking, and use of a handgun in the commission of a felony.
