Greenbelt Police Apprehend Police Impersonator

GREENBELT, MD – Greenbelt Police Department has arrested a man from District Heights, MD, for impersonating a police officer. The suspect, identified as 47-year-old Carl Colston Jr, was arrested on Thursday, following a traffic stop.

On July 8, at around 2:59 PM, Greenbelt Police responded to reports of an armed individual at the off-ramp of Greenbelt Rd at 201 Northbound. The alleged victim reported a man, later identified as Colston, driving a black Crown Victoria who appeared to be attempting a traffic stop.

Colston allegedly flashed a badge, honked his horn, and flashed white interior lights at the victim. He even wore a tactical vest and produced a black pistol, lifting it to make it visible to the victim.

When the victim announced that he was calling the police and recording the incident, Colston reportedly fled the scene.

Following the incident, an arrest warrant was issued for Colston. The Greenbelt Police Department asks anyone who may have encountered Colston impersonating a police officer to contact them at 301-474-7200.
