Suspect Arrested and Charged for Three Murders in Gilgo Beach

SUFFOLK COUNTY, NY – An important development in the Gilgo Beach homicide investigation was announced as Rex Heuermann was arrested and charged with three counts of first-degree murder and three counts of second-degree murder in the deaths of Melissa Barthelemy, Megan Waterman, and Amber Costello.

The announcement comes 18 months after the formation of the Gilgo Beach Homicide Investigation Task Force.

Comprising members from the Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office, FBI, New York State Police, the Suffolk County Sheriff’s Office, and SCPD homicide detectives, the task force continues to work on the case.

With thoughts for the victims’ families, the department expressed hope that this arrest will offer some form of closure.

The ongoing efforts to hold Heuermann accountable for his actions were acknowledged.
