Faulty Dishwasher Cause of Blaze that Killed Elderly Woman

BERKELEY TOWNSHIP, NJ – On Thursday, a fire broke out at 1 Miles Pond Road in Berkeley Township.

During their efforts to extinguish the fire, Berkeley Township Fire Departments discovered the body of a 77-year-old woman in the dining room.

The investigation, conducted by multiple agencies including the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crime Unit-Arson Squad and Berkeley Township Police Department Detective Bureau, found the fire originated in the kitchen, specifically within the dishwasher.

The fire was deemed accidental, with a failure of energized electrical equipment suspected as the cause.

The victim’s next of kin are currently unknown.

The Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office requests anyone with information about the victim or any possible relatives to contact Detective John Doran.
