Overnight Gas Main Rupture Shuts Down Route 18 in East Brunswick

EAST BRUNSWICK, NJ – A contractor struck a 24-inch gas main in East Brunswick, forcing the closure of Route 18.

At 1:34 AM, the East Brunswick Police Department received information about a gas main incident at Route 18 and Racetrack Road, involving a contractor.

The incident occurred during the course of the New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) Route 18 Drainage and Pavement Rehabilitation project. Specifically, a 24″ gas main was hit during the construction work.

Due to the incident, the southbound section of Route 18 is currently closed at Racetrack Road. The NJDOT is taking charge of the situation, overseeing the necessary repairs, and managing the detours in place as part of their responsibilities for the project.
