Trespasser Lands in Jail After Spitting on Cops

CUMBERLAND CITY – On Monday, the Cumberland City Police responded to a trespassing complaint at a residence in the 100 block of North Mechanic St. Upon arrival, and officers found a male subject sleeping on the front porch of the property.

They woke him up and instructed him to gather his belongings and leave the area. However, the subject became angry and started yelling obscenities at the officers. Despite multiple requests to stop his disruptive behavior, the subject refused to comply. To make matters worse, he began spitting on the officers.

As a consequence of his actions, the police arrested Eric Robert Channing, a 33-year-old resident of Cumberland, MD. Channing was taken before the District Court Commissioner for his Initial Appearance.

He was remanded to the Allegany County Detention Center. Currently, he is being held on a $2500 bond.

Channing is facing the following charges: Assault 2nd Degree, Disorderly Conduct, and Resisting Arrest.
