Suspect Arresteed in Newport News Murder Case

NEWPORT NEWS, VA – The Newport News Police Department reported an arrest made on Monday.

Maurice Friday, a 30-year-old man from Hampton, has been taken into custody in connection with the murder of Jeremy Hutchins, which took place on Old Oyster Point Road last Saturday, July 15.

Friday faces charges including first-degree murder, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, and grand larceny of a firearm.

“Because of direct citizen involvement, we were able to bring a resolution to this case,” NNPD Chief Steve Drew said.

He reinforced the importance of cooperation between the community and police in maintaining a safe environment.
