12-Year-Old Among Juveniles Charged in Armed Gas Station Robbery

CLEVELAND, OH – Cuyahoga County Prosecutor Michael C. O’Malley addressed an incident involving 12 juveniles beating a man and firing shots at a Cleveland gas station, stressing the urgency of combating rising juvenile violence.

On Tuesday, at around 12:40 a.m., juveniles aged 12 to 16, arrived at a Shell gas station near St. Clair Avenue and East 140th Street in three stolen vehicles.

The youths assaulted a 34-year-old man before firing shots at a target to the east of the gas station.

Upon responding to a disturbance at a nearby residence on Delavan Avenue at 2:12 a.m., the Cleveland Division of Police detained 13 juveniles, recovered two firearms, and found two of the three stolen vehicles.

Twelve juveniles were charged with felonious assault, aggravated riot, discharge of firearm on or near prohibited premises, improperly handling firearms in a motor vehicle, having weapons under disability, receiving stolen property, and criminal damaging or endangering. Two individuals remain unidentified.
