Newark Man Arrested for Shooting Incident on Bloomfield Avenue

NEWARK, NJ – Newark Public Safety Director Fritz G. Fragé reports the arrest of Maurice J. Oates, 51, of Newark, following the discharge of a firearm on July 21.

 At approximately 5:55 p.m., a patrolling Officer was informed by a concerned citizen about a man discharging a firearm into the air four times near the area of Bloomfield Avenue and Broadway.

Oates was apprehended by the officer without any further incident.

The police recovered a 10mm handgun that Oates had in his possession.

Oates is now facing charges of unlawful weapon possession, and he has been issued a summons for discharging a firearm within city limits.
