DINWIDDIE COUNTY, VA – A Chesterfield teenager died following a shooting and crash on Interstate 85 in Dinwiddie County, Virginia, early Tuesday, according to the Virginia State Police.

The incident occurred near U.S. Route 1 around 10:50 a.m.

The Virginia State Police spokesperson relayed the sequence of events: a 2017 Kia Optima, driven by the victim, was fired upon by a passing vehicle.

This caused the sedan to cross the southbound lanes of 85, crashing on the right shoulder. The victim, 19-year-old T’miya Murphy, was rushed to a local hospital with severe injuries, where she later succumbed.

Virginia State Police are investigating the incident and, as per spokesperson Sgt. Jessica Shehan, it does not appear to be a road rage incident. No witnesses have come forward yet and anyone with information is encouraged to contact Virginia State Police.
