Newark Police Arrest 19 in Citywide Crime Sweep

NEWARK — The city’s Summer Crime Reduction Initiative is in full swing, with the latest warrant roundup seeing the arrest of 18 adults and one minor, as announced by Public Safety Director Fritz G. Fragé.

In a press release, Director Fragé emphasized the department’s commitment to maintaining safety during summer. “Our ongoing work includes warrant operations targeting those individuals known to be wanted by the Police. The goal is to ensure they are no longer a potential threat on our streets,” he stated.

He thanked the Newark Police S.W.A.T. and the Fugitive Team for their unyielding efforts. Additionally, he acknowledged the invaluable support from the U.S. Attorney’s Office and University Hospital’s Emergency Medical Services in this operation.

The Newark Police Division carried out the arrests between August 9th and August 11th, 2023. The names of the individuals detained were not provided in the report.
