Woman Killed in Deadly Moped Crash in Wilmington

WILMINGTON, DE – A fatal moped accident is currently under investigation by the Delaware State Police. The incident took place yesterday afternoon and resulted in the death of a Wilmington woman.

On the afternoon of August 15, 2023, at around 2:23 p.m., a red Jiangsu moped from 2022 was noted heading northwards on Hebron Road. The accident transpired when the driver approached a sharp left curve just past Canal Crossing Road. She was unable to manage the curve successfully, leading her moped to deviate to the right side of the road and subsequently hitting the curb.

Tragically, the moped’s driver, identified as Darla Becker, 49, from Wilmington, Delaware, was thrown from the vehicle, landing on the curb. Despite being promptly transported to a nearby hospital, Becker succumbed to her injuries. Notably, no other vehicles were implicated in the mishap.

The case is currently under the purview of the Delaware State Police Troop 7 Collision Reconstruction Unit. In their appeal to the public, the authorities are urging any witnesses to step forward with their accounts. Interested individuals can get in touch with Sergeant J. Burns at 302-703-3269.
