Townson, MD – A retired 74-year-old medical professional from Baltimore City hit a $40,000 Mega Millions prize in late July. She usually buys Pick 4 tickets but decided to purchase a Mega Millions ticket due to the buzz around its soaring jackpot, which eventually peaked at a historic $1.602 billion on August 8.

She initially doubted her win, thinking she’d made an error comparing her ticket to the winning numbers. “I thought I’d either written down the wrong numbers or misread the ticket,” she shared. However, after re-checking and realizing she had indeed won, the excitement was palpable. The base third-tier Mega Millions prize is $10,000, but thanks to the Megaplier feature she added to her ticket, her prize quadrupled.

Purchased at Giant #353 in Towson, her immediate plan for the winnings is to buy new tires for her car. The rest will be decided in consultation with her family. Although this is the largest amount she’s ever won, she insists she remains a dedicated Pick 4 player. “I played Mega Millions just because of the jackpot,” she commented. Yet, with the allure of massive jackpots, there’s a hint she might try her luck again in future.
