22-Year-Old Charged for Accidentally Shooting Teen Girl

WYTHE COUNTY, VA – Early Sunday morning, just past 12:30, the Wythe County Sheriff’s Office received a distress call about a shooting incident on Lone Ash Road in the Barren Springs community.

Deputies, upon reaching the site, discovered a 16-year-old female who had suffered a gunshot wound to her chest.

The injured girl was transported to a Roanoke-based hospital where she remains in stable condition.

Following their investigation, deputies determined that Gilmer Wyatt Eversole, a 22-year-old man from Wytheville, was managing a 9mm handgun when it unintentionally fired, injuring the female.

Eversole now faces multiple charges, including unlawful wounding, reckless handling of a firearm, and public intoxication. He is currently detained at the New River Valley Regional Jail without bond.
