Three Arrested for Drugs During Utica Traffic Stop

UTICA, NY – Officers from the Crime Prevention Unit made a vehicle stop on Sunday evening at around 6:30 pm at the intersection of John St and Catherine St.

The officers had initially attempted to stop the vehicle on Oriskany St near Broad St. The vehicle finally came to a stop and was found to contain stolen property, a clear glass tube commonly used for narcotics, and a set of brass knuckles.

Driver Antonio Rios, 49, of Herkimer, front-seat passenger Michael Rios, 48, of Utica, and rear-seat passenger Candice Sparrow, 40, of Utica, were all detained.

Further inventory of the vehicle yielded a loaded .38 caliber revolver, ammunition, bags of suspected narcotics, and smoking devices.

Michael Rios, who had multiple outstanding warrants, and the other two individuals were transported to the Utica Police Department and are facing various charges, including weapon and drug offenses.
