FREEHOLD, NJ – On November 17, the Nestle plant in Freehold will officially shut down and the 218 remaining employees will be without a job, according to the state Department of Labor.
Nestlé had previously announced that it will close its 75-year-old coffee plant located on Jerseyville Avenue in Freehold by the end of the year.
The scheduled shutdown is set for November, with the final day of operation for most of the facility’s 200 employees slated for November 17.
A Nestlé spokesperson explained that despite significant investments in the Freehold plant over the years, the factory’s age and lack of operational flexibility would necessitate tens of millions in additional investments to keep it viable. The spokesperson further stated that changes in consumer coffee-drinking habits require a manufacturing network that can adapt to current and future needs.
