New Jersey Teacher Going to Prison for Relationship with Student

MOUNT HOLLY, NY – A 43-year-old Willingboro Township woman has been sentenced to five years in state prison for engaging in a sexual relationship with a 15-year-old male student she met while substitute teaching.

Kameelah Kareem, who served as a substitute teacher at the Alternative School at Bookbinder in Willingboro between November 2019 and March 2020, pled guilty earlier this year to Sexual Assault (Second Degree). The sentence was handed down in Superior Court in Mount Holly last week by the Hon. Christopher J. Garrenger.

The investigation began in early 2021 after authorities were alerted to a potential inappropriate relationship between Kareem and the student during the 2019-20 school year. The investigation uncovered that Kareem had interacted with the student multiple times outside of school.

Further details of the relationship have been withheld to protect the identity of the victim.

The case was prosecuted by Assistant Prosecutor Stephen Eife, supervisor of the Burlington County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit.
