Elderly Man Hiding Out at Shore Motel Arrested for Bank Robbery

East Brunswick, NJ – Local authorities have apprehended a 68-year-old man from East Brunswick, identified as Daniel McCarthy, in connection to a bank robbery that took place on August 18.

At around 11:05 AM, East Brunswick Police Department responded to an activated panic alarm at Columbia Bank, located at 389 Highway 18. McCarthy allegedly handed a note to the bank teller demanding money. He left the bank with roughly $150 in cash and fled in a gray Honda Odyssey mini-van parked on West Ferris Street.

Detective Christopher Williams of the East Brunswick Police Department led a follow-up investigation with support from the Toms River Police Department. McCarthy was later located at Motel 6 on 244 Highway 18 and was arrested without incident.

Charges were filed against McCarthy by the Toms River Police Department, including one count of second-degree Robbery and one count of second-degree Attempted Robbery. He is currently held at the Ocean County Jail, where he faces an additional count of second-degree Robbery by the East Brunswick Police Department.
