MT. VERNON, VA – A fatal shooting occurred in the Mt. Vernon district near the Dollar Tree at 8797 Sacramento Dr just after 8:30 p.m.
The male victim was initially found needing CPR and was later discovered to have been shot.
The victim was transported to Mt. Vernon Hospital in life-threatening condition and was declared deceased at about 8:53 p.m.
A 40-year-old male suspect has been detained. He was last seen wearing a white long-sleeve shirt, blue jeans, and a green backpack. Another subject of interest may be involved.
The Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department initially responded to the scene. The search for the weapon used in the shooting is ongoing.
